DreamClix: Star Trek

DreamClix: Star TrekWe love the combat dial. It's what defines HeroClix and all its fathers and children. Mageknight set the standard and HorrorClix brought us something new and different. That being said we think there's a lot more clix games out there that should be made.

DreamClix is a series of articles dedicated to new Clix properties we'd like to see in the future. These new properties should mostly be in their own world, with no crossover / compatibility to HeroClix or other Clix games (we don't want to see Dragon Ball Z characters in our Avengers vs JLA HeroClix matches, thank-you-very-much).

Star Trek Clix

HeroClix Star Trek Defiant When the Powerpoint (ppt) presentation was leaked two years ago, one of the proposed products was a STAR TREK miniatures game. It was targeted at the 30+ age and would be around the $100.00 mark, which had everything you needed including 20 ships.

Yes please!

I absolutely love the idea of a single stand-alone game like this, even at this price point. I'm not a trekkie by any means, but having a new Star Trek minis game would be a great way to get away from the overly complicated Starfleet Battles game that I played years ago.

According to the ppt leak, "smaller collectible SKUs" were possible if there was a demand. I think this would have been a great idea. There simply isn't enough variety in the Star Trek universe to justify blind packs, so the game itself would use the WYSIWYG model.

This is a great business model, as it's similar to the Munchkin Card Game model -- a single product contains everything you need (no boosters), with a single expansion coming out every couple years that has full backwards compatibility.

If this is still in the works, I highly recommend that Wizkids uses the Mageknight 2.0 PIE DIAL. This allowed for a great deal of flexibility with dial construction and could keep the "special powers" concept away. Let's be honest for with ourselves: Special Powers is a great game mechanic for HeroClix, but it's simply not needed for every single clix game, and this is especially true for Star Trek Clix.

As you can see from the illustration, the "Ability Nexus" is what defines the pie-dial, granting 5 possible new powers (the colored dot can be stand-alone, or connected to the other numbers). As far as Star Trek Clix goes, I think the "Ability Nexus" could be changed to "Faction Weapon", letting the Federation have powers different from the Klingons or Gorn. For example, Federation ships use Phasers, Klingons use Disruptors, and Gorn uses Plasmas torpedoes.

Hmmmmm. STAR TREK vs. STAR WARS???? The possibilities are mind blowing!

oh god... my measly paycheck can't possibly afford to feed both my comic book dork and trekkie at the same time!

Leaky shields would work on a single click method, ie Invul rating. But how close would you like to come before it becomes more like an SFB game?(sounds like you played that) The root here would be to use a system that is fast and dirty. And yes Paramont will make you pay through the nose for license. (see FASA history)

I would still favor the Lou Zocchi ships(anyone else remember) which were copied for SFB. Inexpensive models/molds. Your control might be in damage as a normal ship may do 2 clicks but having a heavy weapon rating gives a +1 vs a std shield/ defense of Invuln thus overpowering defense....based on Fasa info they did reduce damage, thats why they have minor blow outs through the ship while shield were reducing. Without shields result in just about total loss, or final click of bad defense... I think the outer dial would be great but I too need to get a hold of some Mechwarrior clicks to see. Then begin modding. The ability nexus great concept.

Johnwhite-toledo, I haven't had the pleasure of looking at a Mechwarrior dial. If there really is a second "outer" dial, then yes this would resolve the shields issue. However, it should act only as I described in the article; it should NOT provide "damage reduction" since Star Trek shields really don't work that way.

Actually, I WOULD like to see Dragonball Z fight Marvel and any other combinations you can think of. Superman vs Goku would be epic!!!!

Shields would be east The Le. use the same thing that Mechwarrior did with an additional clicker. Every time the get hit, click the outer dial. for ever round your not hit you get to "heal" once. So the dial would function like impervious, inuln, toughness.

Price is to high. If they continue on with the high price sets (Watchmen), It will never fly. The economy sucks guys! Star with a standard box start set. and go boosters. you make your money. But do the have the License with paramount?

Nice concept. Mechanics might work out. Already looks better then Star Wars Starship Battles, though the figs were great system horrible.

If interested I could help with mechanics, Larger bases would help with deeper and better detail dials. I was and still believe FASA had a great system for Star Trek. Again key here would be a fast past system.

I'd like to see a revamp of Star Wars space battles. The mechanics on the most recent WotC game left alot to be desired.
