Mjolnir & Ragnarok
A HeroClix World Exclusive
The Le
11/13/2009

Wizkids has given HeroClix World an exclusive look at the two new HeroClix Hammer of Thor Items: the Mjolnir Special Object and the Ragnarok Event Dial!

Let's take a look at Mjolnir first:
HeroClix Hammer of Thor Mjolnir

HeroClix Hammer of Thor Mjolnir

Let's take a look at the text:
"Immobile Object. This object can't be destroyed. Once per game per character, give a character occupying the same square as this object a power action and roll a d6. This roll can't be rerolled or modified. On a result of 6, remove this object from the game and place it on that character's card. Modify that character's attack and damage values by +2, and that character can use Quake, Energy Explosion, and the Flight ability. If that character is KO'ed, place this object in the square that character last occupied."

Pay close attention to the wording. Each character in the game can attempt to pick up Mjolnir just once. So if your character fails, then he isn't worthy!

It's also a permanent object, so if the character using it is KO'ed, it comes back into play for someone else to try and pick it up!

Personally I think this is the best HeroClix Special Object I've ever seen!

Below is the RAGNAROK Event Dial. Unfortunately we were unable to acquire a larger version of the card, but you can definitely make certain things out. For example, the black ability cleary says "Asgardians can use Regeneration".

Your Comments:
i had quite a fun time using mjolnir the other day the one shot to be there is quite interesting the hammer only changed hands twice. but the stats on those were great. the first one that was able to pick it up was us agent the next was juggs and he was a powerhouse i wrecked the floor with him. i was chancey about using it but it turned out to be fun

If there are anvils of two different colors, namely gold and silver, then i would submit, dear Miraclo (and I bet you'd agree), that gold should go to Fellowship and silver to first place player in points...

The text for Ragnarok (as best as I could see)
All characters on a players force that have the keyword possessed by the most characters(or the character that has the highest possesses no common keyword) are the players “asgardians” any remaining characters are that players “monsters” Then characters that have the asgardian or monster keywords can choose to become part of the group matching their keyword. Place 8 objects on the battle field instead of 6 and do not replace any of them with special objects

Chose a friendly character. The character can use outwit and perplex

Asgardians can pick up objects as if they possessed super strength
All objects deal 1 additional penetrating damage when used in an attack

Monsters modify their speed values by +2

Asgardians can use regeneration

Characters can’t use outwit or perplex

Chose a friendly character. The character can use the following as if it had a range of 12
Energy explosion, psychic blast, pulse wave and quake

Once per action asgardians ? ? action ? ? ? ? ? can modify only one of their combat values by +1 until that action resolves

The game ends immediately each player receives ? fewer victory points on an opposing force that was not defeated

Very nice. It'll be fun to read the stories about the unlikely characters that were deemed "worthy" of Mjolnir! Me? I wonder how Thanos would handle the power? [/Devious]

Awesome!!

Is there a difference between the gold and silver anvil?

Yay Wizkids!

Ooops! Just to complete an early line:

I was looking forward to the set all along, but as we're getting within the final days before the release and I'm making a closer consideration of what we've seen and the remainder of the set list I'm rarin' to tear into boosters of what appears to be an excellent set.

I promise to shut up now and let someone else post.

First things first: Thanks to Wizkids for the pass-along and to you for presenting it. Much appreciated. I was looking forward to the set all along,

Second thing, I agree that this is a wonderful (and thematic) special object, and Ragnarok should make an excellent Event Dial.

Is there a functional difference between the Gold and Silver Mjolnir objects, or is it just a color difference so that the gold would go to for First Place and the silver to Fellowship?

Beyond that, it's bittersweet and worse.

I am unable to be enthusiastic about items that exist only as prizes. I spend considerable money in purchases from Wizkids and prize-only items always feel like a slap in the face. I am not a competitive gamer. I do not wish to become a competitive gamer. I'm in this solely because of the comics connection, so it's all about the characters and the stories. When I win a prize I actually almost feel worse than when I don't -- I want something for what it is intrinsically, not for its rarity. I derive no pleasure - quite the opposite, really - in having something that others would like to have, but can't. (Well, not without beating someone else out for it or buying it off a winner. And, no, Fellowship is a nice concept but it still doesn't fix the problem.) For me, it's "specialness" has nothing to do with its market value.

A better system would see these prizes made more widely available a few months later -- best as direct sale items. Put a different color marker on each if that's seen as necessary. The competitive ones can get them earlier than most and at no cost, while the rest of us can pick them up a little later at a small cost, so Wizkids and the retailers can get a little extra money off the back end of a set's release. Those who are less patient can go the ebay route as some of the competitive gamers will want to sell them off ASAP, and they'll find buyers because some people place a premium on getting things early. Everyone makes out b
